Kyrstin Woods | Women of Excellence Awards

Kyrstin Woods received her diploma in disability studies at Mount Royal University and has been teaming up with families for the past 7 years. She is also working towards finishing her undergrad in Psychology in her spare time. She currently teaches kids of all ages yoga at The Breathing Room Yoga Studio, in five schools and in family homes. She also runs the Adapted Yoga (for families and aides) and Self-Care Yoga (for parents). Along with this, she works one-on-one with children with special needs as a behavioural aide, community aide and respite worker. Kyrstin is an incredible light to everyone she meets and she has and continues to impact the lives of every child she works with. She is a strong advocate for children of all abilities.

Women of Excellence 2018 | Shannon Mcquaig

Well the Women of Excellence Gala was as wonderful as I had hoped. Just picture a room full of inspiring women and their supportive community. Everyone gathered to recognize the contribution of these incredible people. I'm telling you, this type of positive energy is a force unlike no other!! In an effort to keep this powerful momentum going and to continue to lift these exceptional humans up after the awards have been handed out, I am excited to start sharing a photo of a nominee each week! My genuine hope is that we recognize the diversity and strength of the women in our community all year long! And that by doing so we will continually support, encourage and inspire one another!

So without further ado and in no particular order this weeks #WCW!SHANNON MCQUAIG, was raised in Beiseker, Alberta and moved to Lacombe at the age of 16. She later went on to earn an Early Childhood Diploma from the Red Deer College. Shannon worked in various sectors of the education system but her heart was always in working with special needs and speech compromised children. After marrying in 1999 and while raising two children, Shannon volunteered on a number on non-profit projects before re-entering the workforce in 2003 to become a certified DONA Birth Doula. This career has evolved into a lifelong passion and helped bring over 450 babies into the world. Shannon cherishes all her clients as she works with them to create special birth experiences. I am very, very happy to share with you today some photos of a few of my most favorite people. The DeGroot's are an amazing family, each and every one them have hearts as big as they come and a Faith that is truly inspiring. When Heidi (one of my very best-est friends!) asked if I would be interested in shooting some family photos for their Parent's 30th Anniversary I was super excited. We were a bit limited when it came to locations because of the cold and Ryan's wheelchair, but honestly it wouldn't have mattered where we shot the photos; it really is their joy and love for each other that makes these photos amazing. Hey Everybody!!! First of all I just want to say thanks so much to all of you who keep coming back to check out my new work and welcome to anyone who is here for the first time =) All the input and encouragement I have received from all of you over the past year has seriously helped shape my photography and keeps me working hard to become a better photographer with every shoot! I am so passionate about what I do and I absolutely love photographing people who are passionate about their photographs, as well as their event. Ben & Danielle were one of those amazing couples! It was easy to tell that so much thought and planning went into their beautiful wedding, they even managed to choose probably the most gorgeous day in October. The entire day was basked in a low, golden sunlight that seriously enriched their photos with such a romantic, natural feel.Danielle is an amazing artist and you could see her creativity mirrored throughout their entire wedding. From the decorations to the amazing bouquets, most of the details in their big day were handmade or purchased off of the fantastic online handmade & vintage market place, Etsy, including Danielle's dress which is a replica of the one Zooey Deschanel {I adore her!!} wears in 500 Days of Summer {one of my most favorite movies!!}. Yay! I am slowly following through on my promise to do more full wedding posts and I couldn't be more proud to share with you the wedding of Christina & Mark Makkinga today! Their wedding day was one of those perfect days you are praying for your entire engagement. The sun was shining, the air was warm, the wind lightly blew through the colorful fall foliage; gorgeous right? Yes, I felt truly blessed to be able share this gorgeous day with an amazing Bride and Groom. I cannot begin to describe how awesome it was to work with these two and their bridal party included.
